About Matthew Csonka

Dr. Matthew Csonka is a board-certified general surgeon at Carolina Pines Medical Group, providing comprehensive surgical care to patients in Hartsville, SC and the surrounding communities.

Inspired to pursue medicine to make meaningful and tangible differences in people’s lives, Dr. Csonka approaches care with a strong emphasis on communication, respect, and individualized treatment planning. He believes there is rarely a one-size-fits-all approach in medicine or surgery and works closely with each patient to ensure their concerns and goals are thoughtfully addressed.

Originally born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and raised in Bridgeport, West Virginia, Dr. Csonka is especially pleased to be practicing in South Carolina, where he completed his undergraduate studies. He looks forward to serving the Hartsville community and building lasting relationships with his patients.

Dr. Csonka earned his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina in Columbia before receiving his medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Missouri. He is board certified in general surgery and has advanced training in open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgical procedures, as well as endoscopy.

Outside of work, Dr. Csonka enjoys spending time with friends and family, being outdoors, and attending sporting events - especially cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks.
