With over 30 years of expertise, Dr. Chaipis' arrival to the area offers an expansion of Carolina Pines' services to include Vascular Surgery, along with the already established General Surgery service line. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery. He specializes in General, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, addressing conditions such as Venous Insufficiency, Varicose Veins, Spider Veins, and Deep Vein Thrombosis.
Prior to his joining Hartsville Surgical Center, Dr. Chaipis served as the Medical Director and practiced at the Center for Vein Restoration for almost 3 years. Prior to this, he served eight years as Section Chief of General Surgery at the William Bryan Jennings Dorn VA Medical Center, Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Chaipis also held the position of Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. During this time, he also served as Site Director and Assistant Program Director for the General Surgery Residency program at USC in Columbia, SC.
After earning his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (Rutgers Medical School) in Piscataway, New Jersey, Dr. Chaipis completed his general surgery internship and residency training at Saint Francis Medical Center, Department of Surgery, Trenton, New Jersey (UMDNJ Affiliate).
Dr. Chaipis is dedicated to advancing medical knowledge and has co-authored medical journal publications. He has received numerous academic awards, including six Outstanding Clinical Faculty Awards from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, and the Lifetime Volunteer Faculty Clinical Achievement Award, South Carolina Beta Chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), Honor Medical Society.
As a passionate educator, Dr. Chaipis is committed to informing his patients about vein diseases and the available treatment options. His approach involves both minimally invasive procedures and surgical interventions, ensuring comprehensive care for surgical patients.
